Excavations at a cemetery in Pień, Poland, led by researchers from the Institute of Archaeology at Nicolaus Copernicus University, uncovered unusual remains in 2022. The grave, designated Grave 75, held the 400-year-old skeletal remains of a young adult woman.

A curved iron sickle was placed directly over the woman's neck, with its blade pointing toward her throat. A triangular iron padlock was attached to the big toe of her left foot.

The arrangement of objects suggests burial practices related to fears about the dead, researchers indicated.
