Communities across Bangladesh, Mexico, and Thailand are developing practical solutions to address environmental pressures, according to Mongabay's new video series "Hands On: Stories That Build Change." The series documents community-led environmental action in response to changing conditions.

In Bangladesh, families are constructing simple, flood-resistant homes designed to protect residents and food supplies during intense monsoon seasons. In Mexico City's Xochimilco district, farmers are restoring ancient floating gardens to improve waterway quality, support local food production, and provide habitat for the endangered axolotl.

In Thailand, fishers and researchers are mapping a lake and creating fish shelters to protect a distinctive giant lift-net fishing tradition that has been affected by pollution. The three initiatives represent different approaches communities are taking to safeguard their environments and livelihoods.
