Open unemployment in Cirebon City stands at 6.4 per cent. In an effort to tackle high unemployment, Cirebon City Government is conducting job training programmes for the community.
Ma'ruf Nuryasa, head of Cirebon City's Labour Service, said training registrations remain open until 12 August 2026. Welding training is the most sought-after programme, with an initial capacity of 16 participants per class, but it has already exceeded 100 applicants, so additional classes will be opened.
The Labour Service is also offering other training including digital marketing, sewing, barista, and barbershop, which are designed to follow labour market needs. According to Ma'ruf, the programme focuses not only on skills enhancement but also prepares participants to have real opportunities after completing their education.
The Labour Service is strengthening a link-and-match programme with businesses and industry to place qualified participants directly into jobs. Ma'ruf explained that participants can choose to become entrepreneurs or work at companies, and as an example for sewing training, the service will partner with companies for labour placement.
