Honda Team Asia rider Veda Ega Pratama admitted to making an error during Moto3 England qualifying at Silverstone Circuit on Saturday (8/8), forcing him to start the race from 15th position on Sunday (9/8).
Veda Ega impressed on the opening day by securing sixth place in the first free practice session and finishing third in practice, advancing directly to qualifying two. However, the 17-year-old rider failed to maintain the same performance on day two.
"Today was much harder than yesterday. From the morning, I struggled quite a bit and couldn't really find the confidence and feel with the bike like I had on Friday," said Veda Ega. Veda Ega admitted his mistake lay in following a rival for too long during qualifying. "During qualifying, I knew that following another rider could be very helpful, so I waited for the right moment; but we waited too long until I finally decided to push on alone," he said.
After making that error on that lap, Veda Ega did not have enough time to change tyres and return to the track. The rider stated that he and his team need to understand what happened and what aspects could be improved for the next race, given that Friday's results showed their potential to compete closer to the front runners.
