Lando Norris has signed a contract extension with McLaren through 2030, joining fellow drivers Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz in recent renewals with their teams. McLaren announced the deal in an official statement that prompted various media outlets to report Norris would earn approximately 60 million dollars per season, putting him on par with Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari salary.

Norris told The Telegraph that reports of his salary were inflated. "I think I should be earning as much as them, but certainly it does not come close to the figures I have seen on the internet, unfortunately," he said. He acknowledged receiving a raise from his previous contract but said the increase remained well below the compensation of other world champions. Reports indicate Verstappen earns 92 million dollars fixed with Red Bull, potentially reaching 115 million with performance bonuses.

The 26-year-old expressed mixed feelings about his compensation relative to his accomplishments. He said he had not achieved as much as Verstappen and Hamilton in their careers, but believed he could compete at their level when needed. "So yes, I suppose I have two opinions on that," he said.

Norris said he hoped to match their earnings in a future renewal. "I do not know when my next extension will be, but I hope to equal their figures one day," he said. On the subject of retirement, he said he was focused on the short term rather than distant plans. "I do not know if I want to make it to 40. Making it to 30 is already quite a challenge," he said on Sky.
