The discovery of hundreds of firearms and soft guns in a room at Harapan Ibu School Foundation in Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, remains the focus of police investigation. Police are gathering information about the purpose of importing the weapons and the procedures for storing them.
The school foundation's legal representative, Alvon Kurnia Palma, denied claims that there was a dispute over foundation ownership or conflict of interest among the founders. Alvon stated at a press conference in Jakarta that there was no conflict among the foundation's founders and that the school was established to provide education.
Regarding claims that the weapons were used for a shooting extracurricular activity, Alvon asked for such claims to be proven. Police previously stated that the weapons discovery was unrelated to shooting extracurricular activities at the school. Alvon also explained that Suryo, a foundation trustee who is claimed to have known about the activity, is 104 years old and has limitations in understanding and approving the proposal.
As a result of the weapons discovery, the school has implemented distance learning starting Monday. During the distance learning period, the school has asked police to sanitise the school premises to ensure the safety of children.
