Whole Foods Market is recalling select products from its Produce and Prepared Foods departments containing jalapeños sourced from Coast Citrus Distributors due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recalled items include salsas, guacamole, pico de gallo and prepared foods sold online and in stores across 12 states with best-before dates between August 7 and August 16, 2026.

The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with state and local partners, are investigating a multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to fresh jalapeños supplied by Coast Citrus Distributors. A grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, that supplies to the distributor was identified as the potential source of the outbreak, the FDA said.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and cause arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products. Customers who purchased items on the recall list should not consume them and can discard the product or bring a valid receipt to any Whole Foods Market store for a full refund. Whole Foods said consumers with questions can call 1-844-936-8255 between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. CST Monday through Friday, or 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
