U.S. Senator Chris Murphy of the Democratic Party said President Donald Trump has "lost" the war against Iran. According to Murphy, the prolonged conflict between the United States and Iran has actually weakened America while strengthening Tehran.

"Donald Trump has lost this war. America is getting weaker. Iran is getting stronger," Murphy said in an interview with NBC News.

Murphy stated he would be willing to support a "bad deal" to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He argued that the issue of reopening the Strait of Hormuz favours Iran more than the United States. According to Murphy, the deal being considered would give Iran 100 billion dollars per year in compensation for reopening the strait—an amount equivalent to one-third of Iran's entire economy.

Murphy also emphasised the impact of the war on Americans, with fuel and food prices continuing to soar. He said that every day the war continues, America grows weaker, Iran grows stronger, and the American people suffer greater losses.

In his statement, Murphy said he would reject requests for funding to continue the war, but would support replenishing U.S. ammunition supplies after the conflict ends.
