South Africa's emerging spekboom restoration sector is drawing significant financial investment as the country pursues ecosystem recovery efforts. The spekboom, a succulent plant native to the region, has become central to restoration projects across the country.

The sector represents a growing economic opportunity alongside its environmental goals. Investors and organizations are increasingly funding spekboom-based initiatives aimed at restoring degraded ecosystems in South Africa.

The reporting is part of a collaboration between independent science writer Leonie Joubert, the Stellenbosch University School for Climate Studies, and the Henry Nxumalo Foundation, which supports investigative journalism in Africa.
