Children play in a field in the Baros area of Cimahi City, West Java, located near a railway line. For local residents, the field serves a dual purpose as both a play space and a water storage facility.
Rainwater that falls during the rainy season is partially directed into channels leading to infiltration points beneath the field. Residents have carefully planned these channels so that the water storage process is barely visible from the surface.
Underground, rainwater is stored in a tank with a capacity of about 1,000 litres. Using a gravity system, residents can draw water without needing a pump when they need it.
This method is the result of residents' experience dealing with repeated droughts each dry season. The field now serves as a reminder that rainwater falling during the wet season can be stored to prepare for dry days.
