Major League Baseball has suspended a Dominican prospect after an investigation revealed the player was part of an elaborate scheme to portray himself as nearly two years younger than his actual age, ESPN reported Friday.

The age-fraud plot included falsified school and medical records, fake birth and death certificates, and a staged gravesite, according to the report. The player's handler was allegedly involved in orchestrating the extreme efforts to conceal the prospect's true age.

A $2.8 million agreement the player had with the Cleveland Guardians was canceled as a result of the investigation, the report noted.
