All tickets for Merdeka Run 2026 sold out in just two hours after official registration opened on Wednesday (12/8) at 17.00 WIB. The rapid sales demonstrate strong public enthusiasm to participate in the running event and celebrate the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's independence.
Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir praised the enthusiasm. "Tickets sold out in just two hours since registration opened. This shows that people's spirit to exercise while celebrating the 81st anniversary of Indonesia's independence is extraordinary," Erick said in an official statement.
Merdeka Run 2026 will be held on Saturday, 29 August with a distance of 8 kilometres and starting from Merdeka Palace. According to Erick, the event is not merely a running race but a moment for the public to gather and celebrate independence with joy, togetherness, and a spirit of unity.
The event will also feature various entertainment and involve micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Erick said the activity is expected to provide health benefits to the public while stimulating the economy. "Sports must have a multiplier effect. People are healthy, people are happy, but the economy also moves," said Erick.
