Britain's Arthur Fery reached the final of the Winston-Salem Open on Friday after James Duckworth retired with an injury while trailing 6-4 1-2 in the semifinal.

Fery, 24, defeated Cruz Hewitt and Mees Rottgering before beating Aleksandar Kovacevic in three sets to reach the last four of the ATP 250 event. Fery said he hoped Duckworth would recover after the retirement ended their match.

He will face Peru's Ignacio Buse in the final on Saturday. Buse, ranked 36th in the world, advanced by defeating France's Benjamin Bonzi 6-2 4-6 6-1 in his semifinal.

Fery, who reached the Wimbledon semifinal earlier this summer, is set for a new career high ranking on Monday. Eight weeks ago he was ranked outside the top 100. The Briton is set to make his US Open main draw debut, where he faces Italy's world No 14 Lorenzo Musetti in the opening round.

Buse, 22, claimed his first tour-level title in May at the ATP 500 in Hamburg. He was ranked 135th a year ago and is seeded at the US Open, where he is scheduled to play American Marcos Giron in the first round.
