Four dedicated meteor-monitoring cameras at an astronomical observatory in Czechia captured a composite all-sky view during the peak of the 2026 Perseid Meteor Shower on the night of August 12-13. The combined and aligned images recorded a total count of 1,706 meteors.
The vast majority of the captured meteors were Perseids, whose trails all traced back to a single radiant point in the constellation Perseus at the upper right of the image. The concentration of Perseid activity made them easy to identify and distinguish within the broader dataset.
Alongside the dominant Perseid shower, the composite image revealed meteors from other, much less active showers. Kappa Cygnids, whose radiant lies in the constellation Cygnus, were identifiable as they crossed the Perseid trails. The antihelion complex, a weak meteor source located in the region near Aquarius and opposite the Sun in the sky, was also discernible in the captured data.
