The Canadian government has deported 3,323 Indian nationals during the first half of 2026, according to official data from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). This figure is projected to break the highest record in the past six years.
The number of Indian citizens returned in the first six months of this year has reached nearly 88 per cent of the total 3,779 Indian nationals deported throughout 2025. This surge comes as the Canadian government takes strict measures to tighten its immigration system and reduce the number of temporary residents, including foreign workers and international students.
Throughout the first half of 2026, Indian nationals ranked at the top as the most deported nationality group from Canada, displacing Mexico which is in second place with 1,573 citizens returned. Canada routinely deports foreign nationals on charges of violating immigration rules, rejection of asylum claims or refugee status, overstaying visa permits, or involvement in visa document fraud.
CBSA data recorded Indian nationals dominating the deportation waiting list, with 7,669 people currently awaiting removal proceedings from Canada. The number of Indian nationals deported from Canada this year is recorded as two and a half times higher compared to deportations of Indian nationals by the United States, which according to a report from India's Ministry of External Affairs deported 1,273 Indian nationals between 1 January and 22 July.
The trend of deportations of Indian nationals by Canadian authorities continues to show significant increases year on year. Throughout 2024, 2,004 Indian nationals were returned from Canada, while in 2025 the number increased to 3,779. India last topped Canada's deportation list in 2020 with 1,424 nationals.
