The Canadian government has deported 3,323 Indian nationals, representing a major deportation surge in Canadian immigration history. According to official data from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), this figure accounts for nearly 88 per cent of the total 3,779 Indian nationals deported throughout 2025.
The surge comes as the Canadian government takes a tough stance on tightening its immigration system and cutting the number of temporary residents, including foreign workers and international students. Deportation policies are linked to immigration violations and involvement in visa document fraud.
Throughout the first half of this year, Indian nationals have held the top position as the largest nationality group deported from Canada, displacing Mexico, which ranks second with 1,573 nationals returned. Over the past five years, Mexico has consistently topped Canada's deportation list with India in second place, until India last topped the list in 2020 with 1,424 nationals.
CBSA data records a trend of Indian national deportations showing significant year-on-year increases. In 2024, 2,004 Indian nationals were deported from Canada, while in 2025 this number rose to 3,779. The CBSA also recorded 7,669 Indian nationals currently awaiting deportation proceedings from Canada.
The number of Indian nationals deported from Canada this year is recorded as two and a half times higher compared to the number of Indian nationals returned by the United States. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs reported that US authorities have deported 1,273 Indian nationals in the period between 1 January and 22 July.
