Smuggling Vessel Carrying Ketamine Seized in Riau Waters

A joint task force of the Indonesian Navy, the National Police, National Narcotics Agency and Directorate General of Customs seized the motor vessel MV King Sun, flying the Tanzanian flag, along with eight crew members in the waters of Tanjung Berakit, Riau Islands. The seizure resulted in the discovery of 1.3 tonnes of ketamine being smuggled.

The crew members arrested consisted of one Taiwanese national and seven Myanmar nationals. The vessel and crew were secured for further investigation.

The announcement of the narcotics smuggling case was made at Naval Command IV headquarters in Batam on Sunday, 9 August 2026, attended by the Commander of the Indonesian Navy Fleet Command, the Head of the National Narcotics Agency, and various officials from related agencies.
