More than 2,000 Cristiano Ronaldo fans surrounded a church in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, after believing rumours that the famous footballer would hold a secret wedding with Georgina Rodriguez on that day. Ronaldo's family has denied the rumour, but fans still gathered at the location hoping to witness their idol's wedding.
Fan enthusiasm and media crews filled the church location, creating a sea of humanity. When the bridal car arrived, hundreds of people rushed towards the vehicle while holding up their mobile phone cameras, thinking Georgina would step out of the car.
The crowd had to face disappointment after learning that the couple getting married was not Ronaldo and Georgina, but local residents named Fabio Ramos and Fatima Nicole Cunha Teixeira. Despite facing an unexpected situation, some of the wedding guests responded to the chaos good-naturedly. One guest told local media that they felt like celebrities and thought it incredible that people assumed Ronaldo would get married without tight security.
Ronaldo responded to the news by laughing, leaving a comment consisting of laughing-until-crying emojis on an Instagram post by Jornal da Madeira.
