Singapore coach Gavin Lee predicts his team's meeting with Thailand in the 2026 AFF Cup semifinal will be closely contested and tight. Singapore, as Group A runners-up, will host Thailand, Group B winners, on 15 August at Jalan Besar Stadium, Kallang, before the second leg is scheduled three days later at Rajamangala Stadium, Bangkok.

Lee said that facing Thailand is not an easy challenge given their strong track record in this competition. According to the coach, Thailand's squad demonstrates quality depth with a combination of experienced senior players and young talent, as evidenced in the group stage.

Thailand progressed through the group stage dominantly, securing four wins to accumulate 12 points, finishing three points ahead of Malaysia who finished second in the group. Singapore themselves qualified as Group A runners-up, leaving Vietnam behind, and eliminating Indonesia's national team which had previously been considered a strong candidate to advance to the semifinal.
