PSSI General Secretary Yunus Nusi said the federation issued an apology following the Indonesian national team's failure at the 2026 AFF Cup. Yunus pledged that PSSI would conduct a thorough review as a form of accountability.
Yunus, who accompanied the Garuda squad in Singapore, said he understood the disappointment of Indonesian football lovers. He stated that the team failed to advance to the next phase after drawing with Singapore. "PSSI offers its sincerest apologies to all of Indonesia's football community for not being able to deliver results that are completely satisfactory," Yunus said in an PSSI statement on Sunday.
According to Yunus, the review process is a standard operational procedure that PSSI always carries out at every level of the national team, not only when facing failure but also every time there is an achievement or victory. The review is conducted by the PSSI General Chair together with the National Team Board, Executive Committee, and coaching staff.
Yunus conveyed a message from the PSSI General Chair to Indonesian supporters to continue respecting the Garuda squad that has fought hard. He called on the public to criticise PSSI or the federation's leadership, but reminded them not to attack players and coaches. "They are our assets in the future," Yunus said.
