Oma's Pride of Avon, Connecticut, is voluntarily recalling one lot of Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe in a 6 pound bag after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found Salmonella contamination. The recalled lot, BB012729, was distributed to retail and wholesale accounts and directly to consumers in Arizona, California, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The recall began after the FDA received a consumer complaint, collected a sample of the product and tested it positive for Salmonella. Three illnesses have been reported in association with the complaint, and the company said it is continuing an investigation to determine the source and root cause of the contamination.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the product and poses a risk to humans handling the contaminated pet food, particularly if they do not thoroughly wash their hands after contact with the product or exposed surfaces. Healthy people infected with Salmonella may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever, according to the company.

Pets with Salmonella infections may appear lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting, or in some cases decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected pets that are otherwise healthy can carry and transmit the bacteria to other animals or humans. Consumers whose pets have consumed the recalled product and are showing symptoms should contact a veterinarian.

Consumers with questions about the recall may contact Oma's Pride by calling 1-800-678-OMAS Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST, visiting omaspride.com, or emailing hello@omaspride.com. No other Oma's Pride products, sizes or lots are affected by the recall.
