Manchester City sign Argentina goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli

Manchester City have officially signed Argentina goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from Marseille on a two-year contract, replacing James Trafford who has joined Leeds United.

Manchester City have officially completed the transfer of 34-year-old Argentina goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from Olympique Marseille during the summer 2026 transfer window. According to the club's official statement on Wednesday (12 August), Rulli has signed a two-year contract.

Rulli has been brought in to replace James Trafford, who left Manchester City to join Leeds United. His arrival also adds depth to the squad at goalkeeper, with Gianluigi Donnarumma remaining the club's first-choice option.

The transfer marks Rulli's return to Manchester City, where he previously joined the club in the 2016/17 season but never played for the senior team. Rulli has extensive experience in European football, having played for Real Sociedad, Montpellier, Villarreal, Ajax Amsterdam and Marseille.

With Villarreal, Rulli played a key role when the Spanish club won the Europa League in 2021, featuring in the final against Manchester United which was won on penalties. At international level, Rulli has earned eight caps for Argentina and was part of the squad when the country won the World Cup 2022 in Qatar and Copa America 2024.
