The government has set electricity rates for the third quarter of 2026 to remain unchanged with no increases. The policy applies to 13 categories of non-subsidised customers and 24 categories of subsidised customers.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia said the decision was intended to protect purchasing power, support industrial competitiveness, and provide certainty for businesses. "To protect people's purchasing power and support national economic stability, the government has decided that electricity rates for the third quarter of 2026 will remain unchanged or not increase," said Bahlil.
Rate adjustments for non-subsidised customers are normally carried out every three months based on changes in macroeconomic parameters including the rupiah exchange rate, crude oil prices, inflation, and reference coal prices. For the third quarter of 2026, the government used macroeconomic parameters from the February-April 2026 period with an exchange rate of Rp16,959.32 per US dollar, oil prices of US$96.12 per barrel, inflation of 0.21 per cent, and coal prices of US$70 per ton.
Based on the rate adjustment formula, the accumulated change in these parameters would actually indicate pressure to raise electricity rates. However, the government decided not to implement the increase for the third quarter of 2026. The government also maintained electricity subsidies without rate changes for 24 categories of subsidised customers, including social customers, poor households, small businesses, and micro, small and medium enterprises.
Bahlil said the government is committed to providing electricity that is reliable, affordable, and equitable. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources urged the public to use electricity wisely and efficiently, while asking PT PLN to maintain supply reliability, improve service quality, and optimise operational efficiency.
