The Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers Association (Gaikindo) has expressed confidence that the positive trend at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026 will continue through the final day of the exhibition on Sunday, 9 August 2026. Anton Kumonty, Daily Chairman and Chairman of the Gaikindo Exhibition and Conference Organizing Committee, said this optimism stems from the high visitor interest observed through Saturday evening, 8 August 2026.
"Looking at visitor enthusiasm through Saturday evening, Gaikindo is confident that this year's visitor numbers will surpass last year's. This is tangible proof that public enthusiasm for developments in the automotive sector continues to grow year on year," Anton said at the GIIAS 2026 Exhibitor Night event at ICE BSD, Tangerang, on Saturday night. As the exhibition approaches its close, Gaikindo is ensuring that visitor safety and comfort remain a priority.
GIIAS 2026, which opened on 30 July, features more than 65 global automotive brands comprising 43 passenger vehicle brands, seven commercial vehicle brands, five coachbuilders, and 13 motorcycle brands. The exhibition is also supported by more than 150 automotive industry support brands. Anton said the involvement of various brands demonstrates the strong synergy among industry players in driving the development of Indonesia's automotive industry.
At this year's event, there are 10 vehicle brands participating in GIIAS for the first time. The presence of these new brands demonstrates GIIAS's position as one of the international automotive platforms that attracts industry players. GIIAS 2026 is also the venue for the launch of 37 new vehicles across various categories, ranging from Indonesian Premiere to Asian Premiere, as well as various concept vehicles that showcase developments in future automotive technology and design.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa previously reported a rise in motor vehicle sales in 2026. When attending GIIAS 2026 in Tangerang on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, Purbaya noted that car sales in June 2026 grew 32.9 per cent year-on-year, while motorcycle sales grew 1.1 per cent year-on-year. These figures are one indicator of positive developments in the national automotive market.
