Elversberg began their inaugural Bundesliga campaign with an impressive 3-2 home victory over defending champion Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Lukas Petkov and Cole Campbell scored within 60 seconds of each other to put the newcomers 2-0 ahead before the 10th minute.

David Mokwa added a third goal early in the second half. The team from a town of 13,000 played the match in front of 9,307 fans.
