The European Central Bank has published consolidated banking data as of end-March 2026, providing quarterly information on the EU banking system. The dataset covers 335 banking groups and 2,284 stand-alone credit institutions and non-EU controlled subsidiaries and branches operating in the EU, accounting for nearly 100 percent of the EU banking sector's balance sheet.

The quarterly data include an extensive range of indicators on profitability and efficiency, balance sheet composition, liquidity and funding, asset quality, asset encumbrance, capital adequacy and solvency. Reporters generally apply International Financial Reporting Standards and the European Banking Authority's Implementing Technical Standards on Supervisory Reporting, though some small and medium-sized reporters may use national accounting standards.

The published figures cover data for all EU27 member states. The ECB noted that due to the unavailability of first-quarter 2026 data for Denmark at the time of publication, Denmark's fourth-quarter 2025 figures were used as a proxy in certain calculations of EU aggregates.

The dataset also includes revisions to some past data. The ECB compiles the information on a group consolidated basis to support analysis of the EU banking sector.
