Doctors and surgeons gripped operating tables tightly to shield their patients as a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Japan. Kumamoto Hospital released footage of the moment on 28 July.

In the video, the room shakes violently while medical equipment scatters. Staff members rush to prevent items from falling onto patients undergoing surgery.

The earthquake killed at least 30 people and forced 6,700 Kumamoto residents to evacuate.
