Cabinet Secretary Lt Col Teddy Indra Wijaya said that around 43,000 children have had the opportunity to attend school through the People's School programme. He commended the efforts of the Ministry of Social Affairs in reaching children who previously did not have access to education.
Teddy encouraged children who have dropped out of school and those who have never received education to return to school and pursue great ambitions through the People's School. He said the programme is the President's way of ensuring all children in Indonesia can attend school, including those who have never received any education at all.
Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf said the People's School was a direct initiative of President Prabowo Subianto, designed for children from the poorest families. According to Saifullah, this is a programme being implemented for the first time since Indonesia's independence, with a boarding system to meet students' needs so they can focus on learning and developing themselves.
Saifullah stressed that family economic hardship should not cut short a child's future. He emphasised that every child has equal value, potential and the right to obtain a better future, regardless of their family background.
