The teenager who carried out a deadly shooting at a school in Thailand had previously brought an airgun to school until it was confiscated by a teacher last year, according to a police investigation. Deputy Police Commissioner of Region 1 Atthapol Anusit said the teacher had confiscated a BB gun belonging to the 14-year-old.

Police said the teenager frequently watched violent content online. Atthapol told reporters that after examining the suspect's personal computer, police found that the teenager had been watching violent content on social media. Police also said the teenager used social media to learn how to use firearms, although there is no evidence that he had ever practised shooting.

Based on the investigation, the teenager showed interest in learning to use firearms for one to two years, Atthapol said. The teenager had lived with his grandparents for 12 years after his parents separated. Police interviewed 17 witnesses and found a knife in the suspect's bag, as well as a firearm, spent bullet casings, and a personal computer at the scene.

The investigation showed that the 14-year-old shot and killed his grandparents at their home before going to school and killing six others. He then shot himself.

Thailand's Ministry of Education said it would develop new security protocols over the next three months, including mental health screenings and a referral system for individuals assessed as at risk. Additional measures include emergency response drills, efforts to combat bullying, and enhanced detection to prevent dangerous items from being brought into schools.
