Millions of Americans spend considerable time each year applying for Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other public assistance programs to obtain food and health care support. The application process—which involves completing forms, attending interviews, submitting verifications and potentially filing appeals—often must be repeated for each program an applicant pursues.
The complex process places a substantial administrative burden on applicants and their families, as well as on state agencies responsible for processing applications. Streamlining these procedures could improve government efficiency across multiple programs.
