PT Pertamina Patra Niaga is expanding support for the development and processing of seafood through its Community Involvement & Development (CID) Programme at Kampung Bahari Si Pelaut in Kampung Tua Terih, Batam. The programme is designed to drive improved welfare for coastal communities through economic activities based on local resources.
Pertamina Patra Niaga's Chief Commissioner Sabar Yudo Suroso said Kampung Bahari Si Pelaut has strong potential for development because it is able to turn coastal resources into productive economic activities. According to Sabar, the support provided has generated products with added value and created opportunities to expand their benefits to the broader community.
Through the programme, fishermen and women's groups are encouraged to process seafood into food sources and business products. During a visit on 5 August 2026, Pertamina handed over 1,000 snapper fry and 500 tilapia fry to the Joint Business Group Terihindo Jaya Lestari and the Women Farmers Group Warisan Lestari.
The programme involves four business groups developing the farming of snapper, pomfret, grouper and freshwater fish through aquaponics, as well as processing fishery products into various goods. Data shows the income of fishermen's groups and women-led micro, small and medium enterprises increased from Rp27.56 million to Rp68.45 million, or approximately 40 per cent per member on average.
Pertamina Patra Niaga's VP of Corporate Communication Kitty Andhora stated that Kampung Bahari Si Pelaut is one example of an empowerment programme developed by the company together with the community in its areas of operation. The programme also contributes to the environment through the management of 35.24 tonnes of waste per year, reduction of approximately 113.5 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per year, and planting of 1,000 mangrove seedlings for coastal area rehabilitation.
Head of Poklahsar Sukses Bersama Dian said the mentorship has made members more confident in developing their businesses. The group has produced signature products from all fish parts, including Spanish mackerel skin crisps, snapper skin crackers, fish floss and seasoning, which are now marketed to Malaysia and Singapore.
Head of KUB Terihindo Jaya Lestari Seno said Pertamina's coaching helped the fishermen's group develop farming on a larger scale. Through the Integrated Fish Farming Innovation (BUDITA/Eco-Dita), fish rearing time has been reduced from 240 days to approximately 120 days, enabling faster harvesting and capital turnover twice as quickly.
