Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) pre-orders have set a record that exceeded expectations, providing a significant boost to Take-Two Interactive's financial performance. According to the financial report for the period of 1 April to 30 June cited by Variety on Friday, the games company recorded total net bookings of US$1.39 billion or approximately Rp24.74 trillion.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged that the market response to the opening of pre-orders, which lasted only five days towards the end of the quarter, exceeded estimates. "This level of pre-order is very unprecedented and staggering," said Zelnick, adding that the company was very grateful for the response. However, he said he did not want to celebrate the victory before the game was officially released to the public.
GTA VI pre-orders began on 25 June after Rockstar Games announced the price the day before. The standard edition of the game is priced at US$79.99 in both digital and physical format with a code, while the ultimate edition is priced at US$99.99 and includes a collection of exclusive vehicles, weapons, and in-game items. The global launch is scheduled for 19 November, with plans for an exclusive extended trailer to be shown on Netflix in late August.
Despite GTA VI enthusiasm helping quarterly performance, Take-Two's financial report shows a 3 per cent decline in overall net bookings from US$1.42 billion the previous year, as well as a widened net loss of US$34.1 million. However, management remains confident in its long-term projections thanks to solid performance from other products such as NBA 2K.
Take-Two maintains its fiscal year 2027 net bookings target in the range of US$8.0 to US$8.2 billion, driven by strong market enthusiasm for the GTA VI launch.
