Foods Alive Inc. of Angola, Indiana, is recalling 8-ounce packages of its organic moringa leaf powder because of potential Salmonella contamination. The organism can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, the company said.
In healthy people, Salmonella infection typically causes fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and cause more severe illnesses including arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis, according to the recall notice.
The recalled powder was distributed nationwide in retail stores and online, including through www.foodsalive.com. The affected product comes in 8-ounce pouches with a freshest-by date of 110127 and the number 02726 printed below. The pouches were shipped between January 27 and August 7, 2026.
The company discovered the potential contamination after its supplier notified it that a sample of their super green powder mix tested positive for Salmonella at retail. The source of the contamination has not been determined. Foods Alive has suspended production and distribution of the products while the company and the FDA continue investigating.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall to date. Consumers who purchased the affected powder are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Those with questions can contact the company at 260-488-4497.
