Haiti's under-14 football team won the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Division 1 U14 Challenge Series on August 23, defeating Jamaica 4-0 in the final in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The victory marked Haiti's third CFU U14 title, following championship wins in 2021 and 2022.
The Haitian squad defeated Trinidad and Tobago 4-1 and French Guiana 5-2, with one loss to Puerto Rico after already qualifying for the semifinals. The team beat the host nation Dominican Republic 6-1 in the semifinals. Wensley Dumorné was named the Best Player of Division 1, and Jodley Sheeckensley Delmas was named top scorer with seven goals.
The Haitian Football Federation organised a talent detection tournament across the island and enrolled selected young footballers in a two-month preparation camp at the Dulaire Sports Complex in Ouanaminthe, in a border area near Dajabón in the Dominican Republic. The team returned home on August 24 to a reception at Toussaint Louverture International Airport organised by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Civic Action.
The achievement came as a security crisis has displaced more than a million people internally and claimed thousands of lives over the last six years. Gang violence has damaged much of the country's sports infrastructure, including the FIFA Goal Center in Croix-des-Bouquets, the Sylvio Cator Stadium in Port-au-Prince, and the Haitian Olympic Center in Croix-des-Missions. Criminal gangs control the main roads to parts of the country, halting the regular national championship and forcing the football league to organise special competitions.
Football has traditionally brought together Haitians from all social classes both on the field and in the stands. The national team also qualified for the 2026 World Cup on November 18, 2025, without playing any qualifying matches in Haiti because of the gang violence.
