Thousands of residents from Bogor City, West Java participated in a procession carrying a giant red-and-white flag stretching 500 metres as part of the 11th Red-and-White Festival on Sunday. Bogor Mayor Dedie A. Rachim said the procession, with a total flag length of 500 metres, set this year's festival apart from previous editions, comprising five flag formations each 100 metres long and involving around 3,200 organisers.
In another historic moment, Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto retrieved a historic flag from 1948 from a heritage pavilion in Malasari Village, Nanggung, Bogor Regency. The flag was the first sent by the Central Government of the Republic of Indonesia to the Bogor Regency Government in 1948 when the region was undergoing armed revolution.
At the same time, the National Search and Rescue Agency ended active monitoring of the vessel KMP Mutiara Sentosa II after four days of search operations in waters north of Madura Island, East Java. The Head of the Surabaya Class A Search and Rescue Office Nanang Sigit PH said the decision was made on the seventh day after the ship fire incident as no evidence of the vessel or possible casualties yet to be discovered was found.
At Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, the Minister of Coordination for Food Zulkifli Hasan requested prayers and support from the community so the government could improve programmes that had not been running optimally. The event was also attended by Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar, who called on the faithful to continually pray for the nation's safety and security, particularly amid global uncertainty, at the Jam'iyyah Ahlith Thariqah Al Mutabaroh Ahlussunnah Wal Jamaah national remembrance gathering.
