Sadie Sink has finally been able to discuss her role as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day after previously only a few people knew about it. According to a Variety report on Friday (7/8), Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer were among the first people Sink told about the role.
"It felt really relieving," Sink said after being able to speak about her role in the film. Sink added that besides her family, she has been slowly telling trusted people in the industry about the role, including the Duffer brothers who created Stranger Things.
Sink has worked with the Duffer brothers since 2017, when she was 15 years old, until the Stranger Things series ended in 2025 when she was 23 years old. Because of her long working relationship with them, Sink wanted the Duffer brothers to know about her next career move, and they responded with enthusiasm, according to her.
As comic book fans, the Duffer brothers gave positive comments about Sink's casting. "They said, 'That's the best character. You have to take that role!' and then, 'That's perfect. You're definitely going to be amazing,' and so on," Sink said. She said their feedback was invaluable because of their knowledge of comics and the characters in them.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon. The film, rated PG-13, has a runtime of 145 minutes. Jean Grey is a female character with telekinetic abilities who initially becomes an antagonist in the film before the character develops and helps Spider-Man.
