The Metropolitan Museum of Art will present a retrospective of Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock from October through January 2027, examining the two artists' mutually inspirational practices between their first meeting in 1941 and Pollock's death in 1956. The exhibition traces Krasner's explorations of nature and color alongside Pollock's drip technique.
The Whitney Museum of American Art opens a Roy Lichtenstein exhibition in October featuring nearly 150 works from the 1940s to the 1990s drawn from American mass culture, including comics, advertising, and commercial printing. The Museum of Modern Art will showcase Constantin Brancusi sculptures, photographs, films, and furniture beginning in October, drawing partly from the museum's collection that includes "Bird in Space" (1928).
Major retrospectives of contemporary artists are also opening this fall. The Guggenheim will present a survey of photographer Taryn Simon featuring 42 artworks across the museum's rotunda, while the New Museum will open "I Am Tony," a four-decade career retrospective of artist-filmmaker Arthur Jafa. MoMA PS1 will mount an exhibition of Teresa Margolles, a Mexican conceptual artist and trained pathologist who addresses political violence through installations and found materials.
Additional exhibitions opening this fall include a show at the Frick Collection featuring new paintings by Cree artist Kent Monkman responding to Johannes Vermeer's "Officer and Laughing Girl," and an exhibition at the Queens Museum of newly commissioned social practice work.
