Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the current momentum is right for Tehran to reach an agreement with the United States. According to Pezeshkian, Iran has emerged from the conflict in a strong and united position, providing a solid foundation for entering a new phase of negotiations.
Pezeshkian told Iranian media that there is cohesion and strength in the country, and Iran is considered the winning party in the war. He added that Iran and the United States should establish a special channel of communication to handle violations of the ceasefire agreement, rather than escalating the conflict.
Negotiations between Iran and Oman are ongoing to resolve the current stalemate, Pezeshkian said. He expects an agreement can be reached that allows both parties to exit the "neither war nor peace" situation.
US Vice President JD Vance said Washington is seeking to maximise the flow of oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been effectively closed by Iran since the war began in February. Iran and Oman are proposing a traffic scheme to allow commercial vessels to sail safely through the strait.
Vance emphasised that any agreement requires Iran's commitment not to attack commercial vessels. He said Washington has used diplomacy, economic pressure, and military power, and is now evaluating whether Iran is capable of making long-term changes to build a better relationship with the United States.
