The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) says several areas in Indonesia still face the potential for heavy rainfall on Sunday despite the ongoing expansion of the dry season. BMKG attributes the rainfall potential to several climate factors.
Equatorial Rossby wave activity is forecast to be active across central to southern Sulawesi, southern North Maluku, Maluku, western south-western Papua, and western West Papua. Meanwhile, Kelvin wave activity is forecast to be active across central to southern Sumatra, northern Aceh, northern North Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara, North Maluku, southern Maluku, and central to southern Papua.
BMKG also notes that the spatial filter of the Madden-Julian Oscillation is forecast to traverse Sumatra, western Banten, south-western Papua, northern West Papua, and northern Papua. A low-pressure centre is also forecast to form in the Indian Ocean west of Bengkulu, which would create areas of convergence and confluence in its vicinity.
"This is capable of increasing the potential for growth of rain clouds in the affected regions," BMKG said on its official website.
