The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that two Indonesian nationals were injured in a Houthi attack on the MV Tihamah in the Al Mandab Strait on Monday (11/8). The vessel, with 11 crew members including eight Pakistani nationals and three Indonesians, was attacked by drone, according to Heni Hamidah, Director of Protection for Indonesian Nationals.

Of the three Indonesian crew members, one suffered minor injuries from shrapnel and did not require hospital treatment, while another was injured and has received hospital care, Heni said. Another Indonesian crew member was reported by several international media outlets to have died in the incident, but this information is still being verified.

The Indonesian Embassy in Muscat continues to communicate with relevant authorities to obtain official confirmation regarding the condition and whereabouts of the Indonesian crew member in question, Heni said. The ministry will take necessary steps to ensure protection for all three Indonesian crew members and prepare to facilitate their return to Indonesia once conditions and the situation permit.

Based on communication from the embassy with the surviving crew members, the incident occurred while the vessel was anchored at Bab Al Mandab Port, Murad, Yemen. The Al Mandab Strait is the gateway to the Red Sea and is located on the opposite side of the Arabian Peninsula, across from the Strait of Hormuz.
