The Walt Disney Company announced a refresh of Figment, one of Epcot's original attractions, including the return of the Dreamfinder character, and a revitalization of Disneyland's Tomorrowland at its D23 showcase presentation Saturday evening in Anaheim. The announcements came as part of a broader strategy outlined by Thomas Mazloum, chairman of Disney Experiences, to balance new themed lands with updates to established fan favorites.
The Tomorrowland refresh will introduce new attractions, open spaces, and future-focused experiences, building on the original vision designed by Walt Disney. Mazloum said the project aims to combine respect for the park's history with optimism about the future. "We respect where we came from, but we use that optimism to carry us in the future," he said in remarks to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the event.
Beyond the Figment and Tomorrowland announcements, Disney provided updates on previously announced projects including a Cars-themed area and Villains Land at Magic Kingdom, as well as cruise ship updates. The 2024 D23 event focused more heavily on parks' proprietary intellectual property compared to the previous year's emphasis on new Disney franchises coming to theme parks worldwide.
Mazloum emphasized that Disney's approach requires attending to the demands of both longtime guests and new audiences. He said the company is revitalizing attractions like the Yeti animatronic on Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom, which has been broken since shortly after the ride opened, as part of a commitment to "attention to details" that guests expect.
