The Walt Disney Co. and Epic Games unveiled Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite, which connects a real-world theme park ride to a bespoke video game experience. Visitors to the Smuggler's Run attraction at Disney theme parks in Orlando and Anaheim can accept a special mission in the queue for the ride, and those who succeed receive a unique Forsworn Trooper Outfit in a newly created Fortnite adventure called Smugglers Gambit.
"Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite marks the first time this attraction has reached beyond its physical walls into a connected game world," said Sean Shoptaw, executive vice president of Disney Games and Digital Entertainment. "A story that starts in a queue in Orlando or Anaheim can now continue on a screen almost anywhere."
Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run is one of two flagship rides in the Galaxy's Edge Star Wars lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, where visitors pilot Han Solo's famous spacecraft. The cockpit technology in the ride was created using Epic's Unreal Engine, which allows assets from the ride to appear in Smugglers Gambit.
Disney is an investor in Epic Games, and the two companies have previously collaborated on special Fortnite seasons and minigames featuring characters from Star Wars, Marvel, The Simpsons, and other properties. This collaboration marks the first time the partnership has extended to the physical world of Disney's theme parks.
