Labor trafficking—a human rights violation in which individuals are forced to perform labor or services through force, fraud or coercion—often operates in settings that escape public attention. The abuse occurs in fields, restaurants, hotels and construction sites across numerous industries.
The National Human Trafficking Hotline has documented cases including domestic workers forced to labor in private homes, farmworkers coerced through violence while harvesting crops, and factory workers held in inhumane conditions with little to no pay. Despite the scale and visibility of these settings, labor trafficking receives far less media coverage than other forms of human trafficking.
