The Road to Splendor is the latest Chinese drama featuring Ding Yuxi and Deng Enxi as the main leads in a costume drama. The two actors previously worked together in Melody of Golden Age (2024).
The drama tells the story of Fu Tingyun (Deng Enxi), a princess from a prominent noble family known for upholding family tradition and honour. Her life takes a drastic turn after she is slandered for having an illicit relationship with her brother-in-law, a scandal that damages the Fu clan's reputation.
To cover up the scandal, her family exiles Tingyun to a remote temple and orders her servant to eliminate her. Tingyun is rescued by Zhao Ling (Ding Yuxi), an illegal salt smuggler from humble origins who dreams of changing his fate.
Their meeting at the temple forces both of them to flee together to escape the pursuit of those sent by the Fu family. This escape marks the beginning of their long journey facing family rejection and political pressure, as their relationship develops into a legendary partnership.
The drama is adapted from the web novel Hua Kai Jin Xiu by Zhi Zhi and comprises 36 episodes. Directed by Deng Ke with a screenplay by Nan Zhen, both previously collaborated on The Prisoners of Beauty. The Road to Splendor begins airing on 9 August on WeTV.
