Paleontologists from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) have used penguin fossils to map Antarctica's climate history. The researchers examined penguin remains from Seymour Island off the Antarctic Peninsula using nondestructive X-ray mapping to analyze their elemental composition across millions of years.
The chemical analysis of the ancient bones revealed insights into how Antarctica transitioned from a warm, humid climate to cooler conditions. The work is published in the journal Fossil Record.
