The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said forest and land fires on Mount Bromo in East Java now remain at just two hotspots. BNPB Head Lieutenant General Suharyanto said the agency deployed three helicopters to assist with aerial extinguishing operations, reducing hotspots from 34 to two.
Suharyanto explained that in recent weeks, three mountain areas have experienced fires: Bromo, Gede Pangrango Mountain, and Rinjani Mountain. Coordinator for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago said fires at Rinjani and Gede Pangrango have been successfully contained.
The fire on Bromo started on Monday, 3 August 2026 at approximately 17.00 WIB. In response to the spread of hotspots, Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park temporarily closed all tourist access to the area from Saturday, 8 August.
As of Monday, 10 August at 06.00 WIB, the burnt area had reached 550 hectares, according to a report by the East Java Provincial Disaster Management Agency's Head of Emergency and Logistics Satriyo Nurseno. Affected vegetation includes mountain pine, mentigen, acacia and scrub, though there were no fatalities in the incident.
