A major fire swept through Jagong Jeget market in Jeget Ayu village, Jagong Jeget district, Central Aceh district, on Sunday. At least 96 wooden-constructed stalls and shops were completely destroyed by the fire.
Andalika, head of the Central Aceh Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), said there were no deaths in the incident. However, two residents were reported to have suffered burns and received treatment.
The Central Aceh BPBD deployed four fire-fighting units to extinguish the blaze, with one unit each from Jagong Jeget post and Atu Lintang post, and two units from the main post. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The BPBD, together with the Social Services and Health Departments, is currently preparing emergency shelters and communal kitchens to meet the needs of those affected by the fire.
