Japanese window film manufacturer Wincos has noted a shift in how consumers choose window film. Darkness level, which was once the primary consideration, is increasingly being replaced by other aspects such as cabin comfort, visibility, heat resistance, and compatibility with vehicle technology.

Vice President Director of PT Lintec Jakarta, Fajar Solihin, said that the advancement of vehicles has also changed consumer needs. "Window film is no longer judged solely by how dark it appears. Consumers are increasingly paying attention to cabin comfort, visibility, protection against heat, and how well it suits the technology in their vehicles," Solihin said in his official statement.

This shift in preference is becoming increasingly relevant with the growth of electric vehicles, where cabin cooling systems use energy from batteries. Modern vehicles also increasingly rely on technology connected to GPS, cellular communication, and other electronic devices, so the choice of window film material is no longer merely a matter of appearance. "Today's car is not just a means of transportation, but has become an increasingly connected device," Solihin said.

Nevertheless, the darkness level still needs to be adjusted to driving needs and conditions, especially for visibility at night. The quality of installation by experienced technicians is also a determining factor in ensuring the final result, so that window film is properly installed without obstructing the driver's view.

Wincos has introduced several window film variants including Thermal Shield, Premium Shield, and Wincos Shield. The shift in consumer preference shows that the decision to choose window film is increasingly moving away from simply seeking a dark appearance towards considerations of function and compatibility with the vehicle's characteristics.
