University of Sydney researchers have developed a biodegradable "nanobone" material designed to stimulate the body's natural healing properties to regrow bone. The material offers a potential alternative to invasive procedures that have remained largely unchanged for more than 50 years.

Children born with cleft lip and palate typically undergo bone graft surgery between ages 10 and 12 to repair gaps in the jawbone. The new nanobone material could provide a less invasive option for such procedures.
