A cross-border water security program has expanded into several semi-arid regions after an initial phase was assessed as improving clean water access in pilot villages.

The project covers deep well construction, rainwater harvesting installations at public facilities, and resource management training for community groups.

Program coordinators said long-term maintenance remains the main challenge, so local technician training was included as a mandatory component.

Funding for the next phase comes from a combination of national budgets and multilateral development institutions.
